5 Healthy Mickey Shaped Foods Your Kids Will Love

I love Mickey shaped foods! When I can’t be at Disneyland to enjoy the adorable and delicious Mickey treats I like to bring some of the magic home by creating my own Mickey food. Let’s get real here: I LOVE a good treat but I also love fueling myself and my family with nutrient rich foods. Healthy food can taste good too!

I like to work with easy, healthy and delicious recipes because, let’s face it, we’re all busy.  Yes, the struggle can be real with healthy food and kids (trust me, I know) but here are  5 Mickey shaped foods to encourage healthy eating and make it fun (spoiler: get a Mickey cookie cutter).
5 Healthy Mickey-shaped Foods Your Kids Will Love

Breakfast Cookies

COOKIES for BREAKFAST? Count. Me. In. Well, maybe not just any cookies, but these are definitely parent approved. These healthful and delicious cookies are lower in sugar than the average cookie, and are packed with nutrients thanks to heart-healthy nuts and fiber-rich oats. I also love that these breakfast cookies can be made in batches and refrigerated for the future.

To make these cookies Mickey shaped I used a Mickey cookie cutter and scooped the batter into the cutter. These cookies are great because they don’t expand much when cooking so they keep their shape. I love packing these for my kids as snacks too on our trips out.

Veggie Tots

Convincing picky eaters to get down with vegetables can be tough. The kid-friendly zucchini tots are a great solution. They make for a great side or for dinner. To get these tots Mickey shaped I used a Mickey cookie cutter and placed the zucchini in the cookie cutter before baking.

Mickey Fruit

Shaped fruit is a fun way to encourage kids to eat fruit. Fruits are jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber.  I love using pineapple or any melon to make a Mickey cutout.  Pick a fruit with a large area so that when sliced you have enough space to cut out a Mickey. Cut the fruit with a Mickey cookie cutter and enjoy. You can even stick them on kabob sticks or popsicle sticks for Mickey fruit on a stick.

Carrot Muffins

I love these muffins. They are delicious and I love that they are naturally sweetened with banana, apple and carrot. Plus, the walnuts add some extra healthy fats. I often pack these as snacks when on the go. I used a Mickey muffin mold for these muffins (see more info here) . You can also create a simple Mickey shape by using a mini muffin tin to create the ears and a larger muffin tin for the Mickey head.

Looking for a quick, healthy, and tasty snack on the go? Energy balls are one of my many answers to this request.  They’re nutrient dense and filled with fiber from the oats and flaxseed and healthy fats from the almond butter. They are easy to shape so if you roll two smaller balls for ears and one larger for the head you can create a Mickey.

Getting your kids involved in the kitchen also a fun way to teach kids about the joy of cooking and eating good food together. Have fun with your food! Everything tastes better when Mickey shaped. 😉
